Our Connection to Hayley & Chien Rouge

Our connection to Hayley began in early 2016, when she opened Chien Rouge in downtown Marksville on the courthouse square. That is where I first met her, when I began boarding two of my dogs with her.

In 2018, Hayley took the next step and built Chien Rouge’s new facility on Tunica Drive West. Over the years, Chien Rouge became an important part of our dogs’ lives. Two of my dogs started attending doggie daycare there as puppies, going nearly every day. As they grew, they continued to be groomed there, and Chien Rouge remained the place we trusted to care for our dogs when we needed boarding.

But my connection with Hayley went far beyond being one of her clients.

We were both very involved in the animal community here in Avoyelles Parish, and we shared a deep concern for dogs in need. Over the years, we talked often about dogs—our own, those in the community, and especially those who needed a little extra help.

When I fostered dogs in particularly difficult condition, Hayley was always willing to help. Some came with severe mange, skin problems, neglect, and other challenges that required extra care and patience. She never hesitated to lend her knowledge or help with the difficult cases.

Dogs were the connection that brought us together, and over the years, that connection grew through countless conversations, shared experiences, and a mutual desire to help animals in our community.

In November 2024, the news of Hayley’s passing came as a tremendous shock. Her loss was deeply felt throughout the animal community and by the many people who knew her, trusted her, and entrusted their beloved pets to her care.

In July 2025, we were presented with the opportunity to purchase and take over Chien Rouge. Because of our lifelong love of animals, our connection to Hayley, and our continued involvement in the close-knit animal community of Avoyelles Parish, it felt like an opportunity to continue something that had already meant so much to us for so many years.

Our original intention was to keep the Chien Rouge name in honor of Hayley. However, at the request of members of her family, we chose to give the business a new name while continuing the same love and dedication to animals that had always been at the heart of the facility.

And that is how Bed Baths & Biscuits came to be.

We cleaned, remodeled, and made the facility our own, but we never wanted to erase the history behind it. Instead, we wanted to carry the dream forward while beginning a new chapter.

If you visit Bed Baths & Biscuits today, one of the first things you may notice in our lobby are two large black-and-white photographs hanging on the wall. They are photos of my first two dogs—the same two dogs who went to Chien Rouge when Hayley first opened her doors. You will also see a photograph of Hayley with her dog, a reminder of the person whose love for animals helped make this place what it is today.

For us, those photographs represent where this story began, the lives that have touched this building, and why we continue doing what we do.

We are incredibly thankful for the opportunity to continue caring for the animals of our community and to carry forward a legacy built on something that connected all of us from the very beginning: genuine love for animals.
